What is the DTC?
The Disability Tax Credit is a non-refundable tax credit available to eligible disabled individuals that reduces income tax payable. Once you're approved to take this credit on your tax return, not only can you take it for future years, you can also go back and take this credit for previous taxation years up to a maximum of 10 years!
Through this tax benefit program, the government recognizes that people with disabilities and their families deserve a "tax break." Moreover, the government wants those who were unaware of this tax credit to take advantage of it retroactively, and thereby generate potential refunds of up to $40,000!
